Students learn to: •            interpret canine communication •            recognise behavioural and vocal signals •            understand relational communication •            observe interactions between dogs •            identify communication breakdowns The course includes practical exercises in: •            observation •            video analysis •            reflexive logging •            non-intrusive documentation •            interaction analysis Students are encouraged to work with unfamiliar dogs, community dogs, and real-world environments in order to develop observational depth.

A major focus of BACBECC is learning how to: seek consent from dogs recognise withdrawal or discomfort use body language intentionally reduce social pressure support agency and choice Students repeatedly practise: polite approaches reassurance boundary setting movement awareness emotional regulation during interaction

BACBECC prepares students for professional consultation practice using the BHARCS framework. Students learn to: prepare for consultations gather and analyse observations identify stressors conduct interviews maintain client records communicate recommendations ethically know when a case is beyond scope The course includes practical work around: consultation planning client communication follow-up systems report writing case handling safety considerations multi-dog household analysis

Observation is central to the BHARCS approach. Students learn to: create structured qualitative records analyse behaviour over time conduct mini-home studies track sleep, barking, movement, and behaviour patterns identify environmental contributors to stress Systematic record keeping forms an important part of a BHARCS style involvement, be it consultations or research. Hence it is a core part of professional programs.
